There are two essential kinds of paper rolls. Paper rolls are very important in almost any business. With BIR requiring all businesses to issue receipts, paper rolls are an essential part of every business. There are two kinds of paper rolls depending on the cash registers used by a business. The two types are thermal papers and POS journal papers.
Thermal papers are chemically treated papers used in most cash registers. A receipt is printed when heated by the printer head. Thermal papers have a glossy and smoother surface than POS journal papers. Thermal papers are easily recognizable for its shiny appearance. Thermal papers are best used for clear printing of receipts. It is specially advantageous for printing receipts with logo. Fax papers are also a specific kind of thermal papers. The main uses of thermal papers include receipts, ATM receipts, credit card receipts and papers used in medical equipment such ultrasound machines.
One big advantage in using thermal papers is it’s sharp text and images. This makes for easy reading. Thermal papers are available with a half inch core or with no core at all.
POS journal papers
POS journal papers, on the other hand, are made of bond paper. You can opt for a high quality bond paper to improve it’s appearance. If your business uses POS journal papers, your cash register would need a compatible ERC ribbon. Paper rolls of this type can be single ply or multi ply. POS journal papers can be in 1 ply, 2 ply or 3 ply.
Multi ply POS journal papers are carbonless paper rolls. Carbonless paper rolls use chemicals to transfer text or image to the other side. When a 2 ply POS journal paper is used for printing a receipt, the text printed on the first sheet is transferred to the second sheet. POS journal papers are used in the same business segment as thermal papers. It depends on the type of POS system used by the business what type of paper roll they use.
